A-10 Official Results
CHARLOTTE, NC - For the ninth time in La Salle outdoor track history, the men's 4x800-meter relay team has won an Atlantic 10 gold medal.
The team of Paul Reilly, David Laratta, Wayne Bartholomew and Terence McPeak was one of two Explorer events to capture a conference title at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships held over the weekend at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of UNC-Charlotte.
The quartet also broke a two-year old Irwin Belkin Track record with a time of 7:26.98. The mark is three seconds behind than the A-10 record of 7:23.95, set last year by the La Salle team of Laratta, McPeak, Trevon Rainford and Korey Edwards.
Freshman Dominique Best had the most exceptional performance by any individual Explorer athlete at the event, winning gold in the Heptathlon with a combined score of 4,367 points. The women's Heptathlon consists of seven events, the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.
Best had consistent performances across the board to earn the first women's Heptathlon title for a La Salle athlete since Colleen Donnelly in 2002. Best and Donnelly are the first two Explorers that have won A-10 gold in the women's Heptathlon.
In the men's 1500-meter, the top-seeded duo of Nick Crits and Nick Ross each ran a few seconds off their fastest times of the outdoor season and finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Both will compete in that event next weekend at the IC4A Championships.
The top La Salle performers from the spring season will be back in action next weekend at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships held at Princeton. C
