PHILADELPHIA, PA - Dominique Best and the La Salle men's 4x800-meter relay team have been named GoExplorers.com Co-Student Athletes of the Week for their gold medal-winning performnaces over the weekend at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships held at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of UNC-Charlotte.
Best won the heptathlon wtih a a combined score of 4,367 points and was the only individual Explorer to win a conference crown. The freshman became the second La Salle student athlete to win an Atlantic 10 gold medal in the heptathlon, joining Colleen Donnelly who won it back in 2002.
The women's Heptathlon is made up of seven events, the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.
The 4x800-meter relay squad consisting of Paul Reilly, David Laratta, Wayne Bartholomew and Terence McPeak became the ninth Explorere team all-time to win A-10 gold in the event.
The quartet also broke a two-year old Irwin Belkin Track record with a time of 7:26.98. The mark is three seconds behind than the A-10 record of 7:23.95, set last year by the La Salle team of Laratta, McPeak, Trevon Rainford and Korey Edwards.
