Kale Beers
      Kale Beers begins his 20th year as a member of the La Salle athletic administration as Associate Director of Athletic Development and his 20th season as the “Voice of the Explorers.”

    In his role with Athletic Development Kale’s primary focus is the cultivation of donors and engagement of alumni to support La Salle Athletics. He also serves as executive producer of Explorer Basketball.

    He spent three years as Associate Athletic Director after eight years as the Director of Athletic Communications where he oversaw all aspects of sports information, public relations, game day management and was the primary webmaster for GoExplorers. com.

    Beers is the longest tenured play-by-play man in the Big 5. He has called over 600 Explorer events including men’s and women’s basketball and football since 1996.

    A 1995 maxima cum laude graduate of La Salle’s Department of Communication, Beers is currently working in his 22nd season in professional and collegiate sports. His career began as a junior at La Salle when he secured an internship with the Philadelphia Phillies. He would continue to work in the Phillies’ Video Services Department through the 1996 season before building an resume as a play-by-play broadcaster and media relations director for the minor league affiliates of the Phillies, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Anaheim Angels, and the Kansas City Royals. He remains a back-up play-by-play man for the Reading Phillies during baseball season.

    Beers is a veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he served six years (two in active duty) as a Cavalry Scout. He resides in Plymouth Meeting with his wife Suzanne and their twins Kimberly and J.D. and has recently completed his Masters in Education at La Salle. 
 


 
Steve Degler
   Steve Degler enters his 19th season as the color analyst on the La Salle Basketball Radio Network. Degler is currently a television voice of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Reading Fightin Phils after serving as the radio voice of the Reading Phillies for 17 seasons.

           Along with his work with in professional baseball, Degler has also worked for 25 years as radio/TV broadcaster and public address announcer for football, baseball and basketball at Kutztown University.

           Degler is in his first season as Service Electric’s play-by-play broadcaster for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. He has also been a television play-by-play announcer for Lehigh University football for 10 seasons and he was the lead broadcaster for the Niagara University Sports Network for three years, broadcasting men’s basketball and hockey. He was also the play-by-play announcer for the Merrimack Sports Network, broadcasting men’s hockey for three seasons. 

           Degler has been involved for many years as a radio and TV broadcaster for high school and college soccer, football, hockey and basketball games in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, calling numerous district and state tournament contests, including several state championship games and NCAA tournament games.

                A 1988 graduate of Kutztown University, with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications, he and his wife, Karen, and their daughters, Sarah and Hannah, reside in the Reading area.
