Kale Beers is in his second year as Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs after 13 years of service in the La Salle Athletic Department. He spent the previous eight years as the Director of Athletic Communications where he oversaw all aspects of sports information, public relations, game day management and was the primary webmaster for GoExplorers.com.
In his current position he supervisesthe the areas of Corporate Sales and Outreach and leads fundraising efforts to include duties as Executive Director of The Explorer Club.
Beers began his professional affiliation with Explorer athletics in 1996 when he was contracted to create the La Salle Radio Network and assist with game day promotions. He gradually assumed more duties until he was named Assistant for Athletic Advancement where he handled corporate sales and marketing and maintained accounts with several corporate partners and supporting sponsors who remain affiliated with the department to this day.
He has served on planning committees for his La Salle class reunion as well as the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Department of Communication.
As Director of Athletic Communications, Beers played a major role in overhauling the public image of Explorer athletics while streamlining the internal operations of the office.
Under his direction, GoExplorers.com saw three site redesigns including the first in which the University outsourced the design and hosting of its athletics web site. Beers was the primary graphic designer and responsible for the enhancement of athletic publications among many other areas. His design influence can be seen in most of the athletic publications, selected facility signage, retired number and team banners and even the current design of the game court at Tom Gola Arena. Beers also was a key member on the committee that introduced the first professionally designed and current logo and branding system for La Salle Athletics.
Additionally, Beers was the catalyst for the introduction of videostreaming of live Explorer Athletic events. In cooperation with the Department of Communication, Beers brought live streaming of soccer, football, swimming and multi-camera/professional grade production of men[apos]s and women[apos]s basketball to GoExplorers.com. Since it[apos]s inception several other schools have sought La Salle[apos]s guidance in the institution of their own streaming efforts.
Beers will remain the radio [quote]Voice of the Explorers[quote] as he has for the past 15 seasons making him the longest tenured play-by-play man in the Big 5. Only the great Dan Baker (Drexel) has called more city series games among current city broadcasters. He has called over 500 Explorer events including men[apos]s and women[apos]s basketball and football since 1996.
A 1995 maxima cum laude graduate of La Salle[apos]s Department of Communication, Beers is currently working in his 18th season in professional and collegiate sports. His career began as a junior at La Salle when he secured an internship with the Philadelphia Phillies. He would continue to work in the Phillies[apos] Video Services Department through the 1996 season before building an exceptional resume as a play-by-play broadcaster and media relations director for the minor league affiliates of the Phillies, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Anaheim Angels, and the Kansas City Royals.
Beers has also worked over 20 NCAA men[apos]s basketball tournament games including regional finals in Austin, TX (2005), Washington, DC (2006) and East Rutherford, NJ (2007) as well as opening round games in Philadelphia in 2006 and 2009 where he assisted in media operations. He also served as a media assistant for the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2008 National League Championship and World Series.
He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators, the Philadelphia Sportswriters Association and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
Beers also taught 16 semesters of Communication 150 (Public Speaking) in the Department of Communication from 2000-06.
Beers, 40, was born in Emmaus, Pa., and is a veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he served six years (two in active duty) as a Cavalry Scout. He resides in Plymouth Meeting with his wife Suzanne and is currently working on earning his Masters Degree in Education here at La Salle.
