Emily Wolbert begins her first year as assitant coach in 2020-21 after a successful four-year career with Explorers, making her mark as a record breaker and team leader.
Â
Interim head coach Sasha Malanina, who coached Wolbert for the past two seasons, noted Wolbert's experience will only elevate the team moving forward: "Emily brings institutional knowledge as an accomplished athlete and multiple A-10 finalist as she transitions from the pool onto the pool deck as an assistant coach. Her expertise at the championships level will help to lead both teams to a higher level of performance."
Â
Wolbert has certainly been there and done that for the Blue & Gold. She was a finalist at the A-10 Championships five times across her career, swimming in the 200 Fly A-Final on three occasions (2018, 2019, 2020), the 200 Fly B-Final once (2017) and the 100 Fly B-Final once (2020). Her sophomore campaign, she broke the 200 Fly school record with a time of 2:03.28 at the Championships, a mark which she would later reset her senior year at the Bucknell Invite, touching in 2:02.36.Â
Â
Wolbert also etched her name in the history books a second time as part of the 200 Medley relay team that set the school record of 1:42.95 at the 2018 A-10 Championships.
Â
Outside of the pool, Wolbert's status in the team was reflected by her nomination to the 2019-20 Swimming & Diving Leadership Council. She impressed academically during her time in La Salle's Integrated Science, Business and Technology program, notably being named to the 2018-19 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team.
Â
That balance of success in and out of the pool is something Wolbert hopes to foster as she transitions to coaching this year, stating:Â "It means so much to be able to give back to the team that gave me so much during my four years as an Explorer. This team is full of exceptional student-athletes and I can't wait to be part of their success in the pool and in the classroom."
