Alfredo Santana has been named GoExplorers.com Student-Athlete of the Week for May 6. The senior was named ‘Most Outstanding Track Performer’ at this weekend’s Atlantic 10 Championships after winning both the 5,000m and 10,000m races.
Santana took home the top prize in the 10,000m on Friday, clocking a 29:58.69. He edged Kevin McDonnell of Saint Joseph’s by over three seconds to secure the victory. The Nueva Esperanza product was triumphant in the 5,000m run on Saturday, crossing the finish line at 14:25.19. Santana out-hustled Butler’s Tom Anderson down the home stretch, winning the neck-and-neck race by exactly one second.
The Philadelphia native was named ‘Performer of the Meet’ at the A-10 Indoor Championships in February after winning both the 3,000m and 5,000m runs. Santana placed first in the 2011 cross country championships as well, earning ‘Performer of the Meet’ honors. He is the first-ever La Salle runner to claim the trifecta as an Explorer.
