NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Sophomore Morgan Szekely has been named GoExplorers.com Athlete of the Week following her season opening win at the Lehigh Invitational this past weekend. Szekely was also named Atlantic 10 Women’s Cross Country Co-Performer of the Week thanks to her season-opening performance. 
 
The Marion, Texas native won the 6k race with a time of 21:44.5 which bested the 60 women field by 1:00.9. Szekely is the reigning Atlantic 10 Champion and reached the NCAA Championship during her freshman campaign. This is the second time she has earned an Atlantic 10 weekly award as she was named Rookie of the Week on October 21 last year.
 
Szekely and the Explorers return to action this Friday as they head to Belmont Plateau for the Friends Big Five Invite.
