Philadelphia, PA-La Salle University football player Jeff Fletcher was presented with a Scholar Athlete Award by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame on Wednesday, May 11 at a banquet on the campus of Villanova University.
Fletcher was honored for his rare blend of excellence on and off the field. A defensive back, he was voted the team's Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 after registering 49 total tackles, seven for a loss, a sack, and three pass break-ups. He also recorded 50 tackles in 2003.
However, his contributions to the La Salle community extend far beyond the gridiron. Jeff received the 2004 Student Activities Achievement Award for service and significant contributions to La Salle. He also received the Faculty Athletics Council Academic Achievement Award in 2003 and 2004.
An excellent student, he has been named to the Dean's List four times and was a MAAC Academic All American in 2003 and 2004. He will graduate Cum Laude this weekend wit a B.S. degree in accounting.
For all of these reasons, Fletcher was recognized by National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame at their annual banquet. Villanova Head Coach Andy Talley presided over the event, which honored the best high school and college student-athletes Philadelphia has to offer.
Fletcher is now poised to begin the next phase of his life. He has accepted a position with KPMG, a public accounting firm, and will begin in June, 2005.
