Sept. 30, 2007

Box Score

RICHMOND, VA - The La Salle University Women's Soccer team took on the Richmond Spiders at First Market Stadium and dropped a 1-0 decision in Atlantic 10 action Sunday afternoon after a 3.5 hour delay due to official assigning.

Richmond (2-6-2, 1-0-1 A-10) scored the only goal of the contest just three minutes after the half when Jessie Knight took a pass from Jen Ruhe and dribbled in past La Salle goalie Amy Grant and scored the game-winner.

The Explorers had a number of scoring chances in the first half, with seven shots on goal - three of which were saved by field players - and three corner kicks; however they could not get the ball in the net.

Lauren Barker had a header off a corner kick that was saved by a Richmond defender in the 10th minute. In the 26th minute, Ally Kenney took a pass from Traci DePasquale and shot, but Spider goalie Kate Hudson made a diving save.

Richmond's only real threat in the first half was a 20-yard strike by Jessie Wolfe that hit the crossbar in the 28th minute.

La Salle (5-5-0, 0-2-0 A-10) continued to pepper the Richmond net with shots, with Kristin Hextall, Kenney, and DePasquale each taking shots on goal in a three-minute span, but the Explorers could not finish it.

After the Spiders took the lead, they limited the Explorers to just two shots on goal the rest of the way - both by Hextall, which were saved by Hudson.

She made six saves in the game and got help from her teammates with three team saves to register the shutout victory. Grant made three saves in the loss.

La Salle gets back on the field Friday night when the Explorers host NJIT in their last non-conference match of the season at McCarthy Stadium with a 7 PM kickoff.
