Explorers Get Early Lead But Can't Stop Rams Charge in 4-1 Loss

Oct. 12, 2007

The La Salle Explorers opened up Atlantic 10 play with a 4-1 loss to the Fordham Rams on a chilly Friday night in the Bronx, NY to drop to 2-7-1 (0-1).

The Explorers got on the board early with a score by senior Joe Heavey (Coatesville, PA) off an assist from senior Mike Lehr (Carlisle, PA) off a free kick from the 47 yard line. Fordham came back with just under 18 minutes when a La Salle defender took down Ram Kevin Meyer (South Windsor, CT) in the box to force a penalty kick. Fordham scored on the penalty kick to tie it up at 1-1.

The Rams luck would continue just a few minutes later with a dangerous pass deep into La Salle territory resulted in a controversial goal by Meyer on the left side of the net past diving junior keeper Dan Pfeiffer (Warminster, PA) to give the Rams a 2-1 edge.

The Explorer's were put on the defensive right away in the second half as Pfeiffer swatted away a ball at the 40:00 mark to make a save La Salle had to have. Fordham's Meyer scored his third goal of the match to get his first career hat trick and put the Rams up 3-1 with 25 minutes to go. Fordham's Louis Vigliotti continued the scoring binge with a goal at 9:38 to make the score 4-1.

Pfieffer had six saves in goal for the Explores, while Ram's keeper Dan Hajducky had two for the maroon and white.

La Salle hosts Dayton on Friday, October 19th at 7:00 PM for their first A-10 home game.
