The La Salle men's tennis team ended a very successful fall campaign on Sunday with a loss on the road to Lafayette College. The Explorers hung with Lafayette in singles, but were only able to get one point on the scoreboard on a brisk October afternoon.
The Explorers were unable to secure the doubles point as Lafayette took two of three matches. At number one doubles, George Gennaoui and Jon Maula were down 6-1 and looked to be done until they staged an epic comeback. The Explorers top doubles duo ran off an unprecedented seven games in a row to shock the Lafayette duo of Lee Kojanis and Brett Kraft, 8-6. At number two doubles, Andy Petrusky and Ryan Knarr fell to the well structured doubles team of Matt McGranaghan and Kyle Michelland, 8-1. At number three, Eric Glick and Matt Rivera were shut out, 8-0.
In singles, the Explorers were poised to make a run at Lafayette, taking the lead in four of the matches, but were unable to sustain them, winning just one. At number one, Gennaoui played a tight three-setter, but was nipped by Kojanis, 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 10-6. At number two, Petrusky, playing in front of his hometown crowd in Easton, was able to only take three games off his opponent, losing 6-1, 6-2. At number three, Matt Rivera lost a close first set and ultimately the match, 7-5, 6-2. At number four, Eric Glick lost to Eric Wiley, 6-1, 6-2. At number five, Jon Maula was the only Explorer to win his singles match, taking care of business 6-2, 7-5, getting La Salle on the board. At number six, Ryan Knarr led 3-1 in the second set, but was unable to complete the comeback, losing 6-3, 6-3 to James Murphy of Lafayette.
With the loss the Explorers completed their fall season finishing at a successful 8-4.
