The La Salle volleyball team's tough luck continued on Tuesday evening, as crosstown-rival Penn handed the Explorers a 3-0 defeat at Tom Gola Arena. The home team played one of its better matches in recent memory, holding the lead late in the first two games, but couldn't muster a win, falling by scores of 30-27, 30-25 and 30-19.

Carly Conlon had a game-high 30 assists, while Jackie Kushman posted a double-double with a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs. Erin Sullivan and Amy McKeon each added eight kills, while Kayla Beck led the Explorers with 14 digs.

The Explorers came out on fire, grabbing a 15-7 lead in game one. However, Penn quickly turned the tables, taking an 18-16 lead over a stunned La Salle squad.

The two teams battled back and forth, as the game was tied at 27-27. Unfortunately for La Salle, the Quakers scored the final three points of the stanza to earn the 30-27 win.

Game two was much of the same, as La Salle again took an early lead, only to see it evaporate. With Penn leading by one point, McKeon knocked down a kill, blocked a shot and added another kill to quickly give the lead back to the Explorers. Penn would then regain the lead, this time for good as they fought to a tough 30-25 win.

The third game was not as close, as Penn took a 20-9 lead and never looked back, rolling to a 30-19 win.

Penn's Julia Swanson had a game-high 17 kills, while Madison Wojciechowski led all players with 20 digs. Linda Zhang and Megan Tryon each had 26 and 15 assists, respectively.

The Quakers posted a .308 hitting percentage as a team, compared to just .062 for La Salle.

With the loss, the Explorers fall to 9-17 on the year, as they dropped their sixth consecutive match. Penn improved to 10-7.
