Explorers Duke It Out in 2-1 Victory

Oct. 26, 2007

Final Stats

Philadelphia, PA- The La Salle University Explorers marched into McCarthy Stadium on Friday night hungry for their second Atlantic 10 victory, and that's exactly what they got in a 2-1 A-10 victory over the Duquesne University Dukes. The Explorers have now won two consecutive A-10 matches.

Scoring came early on as Duquesne junior John Strosser (Erie, PA) stroked a shot from the 40-yard line to give the Dukes the momentum and a 1-0 lead.

La Salle fought back at 11:41 as sophomore Jim Guntle (Great Falls, VA) came out of a scramble in front of the net to sneak the ball past the Dukes goalkeeper and get the Explorers right back in the match at 1-1.

With just under 30 minutes into the second half, Explorer freshman Ryan Richter (Southampton, PA) notched La Salle's second goal and eventual game-winner to take a 2-1 lead. Guntle was credited with the assist.  The goal was Richter's fourth of the season.

Explorer junior goalie Andrew Bernhard (Lancaster, PA) had 11 saves, while Duke freshman keeper Chris Torres (Vienna, VA) made seven stops for Duquesne.

The blue and gold kick off next on Sunday, October 28th vs. Saint Bonaventure at 2:30 PM for Senior Day at McCarthy Stadium.
