Box Score
AMHERST, MA - With mere seconds remaining in regulation, freshman midfielder/forward Ryan Richter (Southampton, PA) scored from 30 yards out off a pass from senior defender Mike Lehr (Carlisle, PA) to get La Salle on the scoreboard- but it would not be enough as the Explorers fell 2-1 at the University of Massachusetts early Friday.
The loss breaks the string of three victories the blue and gold had coming into today's match. With the loss the Explorers go to (5-9-1, 3-3) on the season.
The Minutemen wasted no time as they scored just 10 minutes into the first half as Chris Brown headed a shot past Explorer goalie Andrew Bernhard (Lancaster, PA). Trailing 1-0, La Salle could not break the Massachusetts defense as they headed into the locker room at halftime still down by a score.
The frustration mounted for the blue and gold as Massachusetts scored another goal at 84:47, this time by Bryan Hogan to push the lead to 2-0. Playing to stay in the game, freshman Richter came alive at 89:13 to score the Explorer goal and give La Salle a glimmer of hope down just 2-1. The clock was not on La Salle's side as the Explorers could not manage another score.
Bernhard had six saves in goal for La Salle, while Massachusetts keeper Zack Simmons made two stops for the Minutemen.
The Explorers will next face the University of Rhode Island on Sunday, November 4th at 2:30 PM in another Atlantic 10 match-up.
