La Salle Swept by Temple

Nov. 8, 2007

Box Score

Coming off of an eleven-day break, the La Salle volleyball team couldn't shake off the rust in a 3-0 loss to city-rival Temple on Thursday evening. The Owls took the three games by scores of 30-27, 30-16 and 30-18.

The long layoff couldn't have come at a worse time for the Explorers, who had put forth solid performances in their previous three outings. They came out strong in this one, grabbing an early 9-4 lead. After Temple came back to tie it, consecutive kills by Maeve Hanley gave La Salle a three-point cushion at 19-16. Coming out of a timeout, the Owls stormed back to rattle off six consecutive points and take the lead for good.

La Salle came out flat in the second game, as Temple jumped to an early lead and never looked back, en route to the 30-16 win. In game number three, the Explorers were able to hang tough early but couldn't contain the Temple attack, as the Owls combined to hit .613 in the 30-18 win.

Jackie Kushman led La Salle with 12 kills. Hanley, seeing action for the first time since September 28th, added eight kills while hitting .333 for the match. Carly Conlon had 16 kills in the loss.

On the evening, the Blue and Gold hit just .107 while the Owls hit a scorching .434.

La Salle closes out its season tomorrow at home versus Fordham. Prior to the start of the match, the team will honor seniors Hanley, Stephanie Owen and Erin Sullivan. The ceremonies will get underway at 7:15, with the match getting started at 7:30.
