Box Score
The La Salle volleyball team wrapped up its season on Friday evening with a 3-0 loss to Fordham. The Rams took the three games by scores of 30-24, 30-13 and 35-33.
In their final match wearing the blue and gold, seniors Stephanie Owen, Erin Sullivan and Maeve Hanley were all honored prior to the start of the match. Owen ended her career on a personal high note, leading La Salle with 11 kills. Sullivan had a team-high 19 assists and eight digs, while Hanley chipped in three kills and two digs.
An inspired La Salle team came out in the first game and played the Rams tight. With the score tied at 19, Katherine Burrell's kill sparked a 5-0 Fordham run to put the game out of reach. Jackie Kushman led the Explorers with seven kills in the game.
Game number two was all Fordham, as the Rams went on runs of 6-0 and 8-0 to coast to an easy victory. Down 2-0, the Explorers tried desperately to force a fourth game. Holding a 29-27 lead, they were unable to close out the contest, as Fordham rattled off three straight points. A Fordham kill appeared to have landed out of play, but the Rams were awarded the point on a controversial call. Danielle DiMarco landed a kill to break the Rams' serve and knotted the score at 30. Owen gave La Salle a one-point advantage with her eleventh kill of the night, but the Explorers were once again unable to capitalize. DiMarco added another kill moments later to keep the game alive, but consecutive Fordham points gave them the win and ended La Salle's season.
Kailee May led the Rams with 19 kills, while Burrell had a game-high 44 assists.
Tonight's match helped to raise money for breast cancer research. In addition to donning pink t-shirts during warm-ups, the Explorers made a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for each of their 50 digs this evening.
