Explorers Can't Get Final Roll in 67-66 Loss at Bucknell

Lewisburg, PA - With under three seconds to play Ruben Guillandeaux' lay-up hung on the front of the rim but fell out and the La Salle University Explorers (3-3) dropped a 67-66  defeat to Bucknell (3-4) after leading by 14 points in the second half on Monday night at Sojka Pavilion.

 

The Explorers got a game-high 25 points from senior Darnell Harris who shot 7 for 12 from the arc but missed his final three shots and committed a foul with 9.5 seconds to play to put the Bison's John Griffin on the line where he made two free throws to give Bucknell their first lead since being up15-12 with 9:55 to play in the first half.

 

The Explorers led at halftime,as they have in all six of their games (39-27) and led by as many as 16 points in the first half.  They built the lead back to 14 points with 13:42 to play when Harris hit is sixth three-pointer to make the score 47-33.

 

Bucknell went on a 24-12 run to end the game including a season-high 18 points by Justin Castleberry who had a dozen in the second half.  He and Griffin combined for 39 points and Patrick Behan added 18.

 

Despite the missed final shot Guillandeaux scored 11 points and dealt three assists in his first game of the season after missing the first five games with bursitis in his right wrist.

 

The Explorers continue their 43 -day road swing with a Saturday afternoon game at Morgan State.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
