Explorers Get Sweep Over Ball State

Feb. 17, 2007

Box Score

BOCA RATON, FL - John Rickards followed his morning effort with an even better one in the second game as he helped the La Salle University Baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Ball State, Saturday at the Beach Ball Bash at FAU Stadium.

He again hit a two-run first inning home run plating Justin Handler, in a three-run first for La Salle, then had an RBI double and later scored in the Explorer's six-run fourth inning, which gave them a nine-run lead at that point.

La Salle (2-1) scored a single run in the fifth and when Kevin Jones knocked in RJ Hollinshead in the top of the sixth inning with a single, the Explorers led 11-0.

Benefitting from the offensive explosion was Dan Waters, who handled the Ball State line-up for the first five innings - allowing just four hits.

However, in the bottom of the sixth, he allowed a two-run home run and four earned Ball State (0-3) runs in all, but still picked up his first win of the season. Brian Kern pitched the last 1.2 innings of work allowing one run and striking out one.

Jones finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Meagher had two hits.

La Salle will play its final game in the Florida Atlantic tournament against the host, Sunday, starting at 2 PM.
