Explorers Cruise to Easy Victory over Lafayette

EASTON, PA - The La Salle lacrosse team cruised to an easy 22-13 victory over host Lafayette on Thursday afternoon at Rappolt field.  The win improves La Salle's overall record to 4-2, while the Leopards remain winless at 0-6.

Freshman Jillian Davis and junior Emily Bonczek led the way for the Explorers each scoring six goals in the victory.  Senior Tiffany Grossi matched Davis and Bonczek's six points in the form of two goals and a game-high four assists.

La Salle got off to a quick start as senior Catie Borneman scored the first goal of the game with the help of Tiffany Grossi just 50 seconds into the action.  Bonczek followed 45 seconds later with her first goal and Grossi netted a free position goal 2:11 into the contest.

Lafayette halted La Salle's scoring run at three, as Maria Drehwing took a pass from Maddy Booth with 25:15 to play in the half to put the Leopards on the scoreboard.

The Leopards couldn't stop the Explorers for long, as Davis scored her first at the 5:58 mark.  La Salle scored four straight over a period of just 2:36 to open their lead to 7-1.  Drehwing halted the Explorers again with 20:30 remaining in the first half, this time with the help of Kristin Ruminski.  Lafayette made it back-to-back goals with Booth scoring a goal, but La Salle answered with goals by Stefany McKee, her second of the afternoon and Bonczek.

La Salle and Lafayette traded three series of goals before Davis posted her first hat trick with 3:41 to play before the break.  Booth scored for Lafayette and Davis netted her fourth to close out the period with La Salle boasting a commanding 14-7 lead.

In the second half, Davis opened the period with back-to-back goals at the 29:58 and 36:33 marks.  Fellow freshman Elizabeth Iacullo assisted on both goals.  Booth broke up La Salle's latest offensive attack, but Bonczek started another with 19:38 to play.  She scored two goals in just 32 seconds followed by an unassisted goal by Borneman.

Booth scored what would turn out to be her last goal of the game with 14:54 to play sparking Lafayette's only run of the game.  Sydney Peyser and Sofie Grossman each scored to bring the score to 19-11. 

Alie Venuti knocked in her lone goal of the day with 11:20 to play and the game wrapped u with McKee and Lafayette's Kristin Ruminski each scoring two goals in the last 10:15 of play.

La Salle goalkeeper Brittany Friedrich played the entire 60 minutes and faced 36 shots enroute to posting 12 saves.  Lafayette's Christine McDougal controlled the net for most of the game facing 39 shots and earning eight saves.  The Leopards' Emily Bjork checked-in for the last 4:23 and allowed two goals.

The Explorers will continue in action on the road this Sunday, March 25th when they travel to Farmville, Virginia to take on Longwood at 12:00 p.m.
