Explorers Cruise to 11-7 Victory in Second Game Over Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA, PA - In the second game of a double-header with Saint Joseph's, the Explorers jumped out to an 11-0 lead and eventually claimed the game by a score of 11-7. 

Mary Pat Conville reached the bases on a fielder's choice and scored on Michelle Sullivan's single to put the Explorers up 1-0 at the end of the first inning.

After giving up one hit in the top of the second inning, the Explorers got a double from Teddi Hernandez and a single from Christina Tofani and Kelli Curcio.  Sullivan also got on base on a fielder's choice.  At the end of the inning, the Explorers took a 4-0 lead.

The third inning resulted on almost the same as the third, with Sain Joseph's going three up and three down before the Explorers took a commanding 8-0 lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Explorers continued with their offense, getting singles from Angelina Bisbiglia, Tofani and Curcio enroute to adding three runs to 
La Salle's total to put the game at 11-0.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Hawks finally got into the game with a singles from Brooke Darreff, Susan Lebow, Carly Kinkler, and Dani Gonzales.  Erika Rosenwinkel added a double for the Hawks in a five-run inning for the Hawks.

After an uneventful sixth inning, and the score sitting a 11-5, Saint Joseph's made things interesting as Beka Shumock started the inning off with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Kate Falasca singled followed by Kelsey Moir's double which helped the Hawks put two additional runs on the board.  But that was as close as the Hawks would get, dropping the second game of the day to La Salle 11-7

The Explorers put Lea Corcoran on the mound for the duration of the game, striking out five Saint Joseph's players while walking just two players.  Saint Joseph's continued from the first game with Lauren Cognigni who lasted just over one inning and game up five hits.  In the second inning, the Hawks switched to Alyssa Nielson who gave up one hit and walked four players, forcing the Hawks to look to the bench.  In the third inning, the Hawks placed Gonzales on the mound and closed out the game giving up seven hits and striking out five Explorers.

La Salle will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Newark to take on the Delaware Blue Hens in a double header starting at 3:00 p.m.
