Explorers Take Second Game in Non-Conference Doubleheader

April 11, 2007

Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle Explorers (11-15, 2-4) split a two-game bout with the Towson Tigers this afternoon, dropping the first game 2-1 before pounding out a 9-1 victory to close out the series.

A string of hits from the Tigers in the bottom of the first inning gave them an early lead over the Explorers when Aimee Rosa grounded out to second base, bringing Kim Lempa in for the score.  After three innings, Laura Dezolt finally got things going when she smacked a triple into right field.  The play paid off at the next at bat, when Michelle Sullivan reached first on an error by third baseman Emily Gould, and allowed DeZolt to score the tying run.

The game stalled with only one combined hit for the rest of the game until the bottom of the seventh, when Towson's Nina Navarro scored from second base on an error to provide the winning run.  DeZolt gave up five hits and struck out eight out of 24 at bats.

The Explorers turned around and took control of the second game in the first inning, when an error in the field and a wild pitch allowed the Explorers to round up three runs.  Pitcher Jillian Kiley gave up three of her six hits in the first inning.

After a second inning with no hits, the Explorers doubled their runs when Angelina Bisbiglia hit her third home run of the season and brought in DeZolt and Mary Pat Conville and gave La Salle a 6-0 lead.

Rosa scored the Tigers' one and only run in the bottom of the fourth inning, before Bisbiglia then earned her fifth RBI, singling in DeZolt for the seventh run in the fifth inning.

Conville earned two RBIs of her own in the sixth to finish out the Explorer scoring.  She doubled into right field and allowed Megan Berry and Alicia De La Rosa to reach homeplate, giving the Explorers the 9-1 win.  Laura Beth McCreesh advanced to 4-6 from the mound, facing 28 at bats and giving up 11 hits.

Next up the Explorers will be at home to play against conference opponent Saint Louis.  The first game of the two-day event will start off at 3:00PM on Friday afternoon and will wrap up at 12:00PM the following day.
