Final Stats
PHILADELPHIA, PA - In a first-ever night lacrosse game at La Salle's McCarthy Stadium, the Explorers fell in an Atlantic 10 match to the George Washington Colonials, 20-10 on Friday night. The loss drops La Salle to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Colonials improve to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the A-10. Senior Tiffany Grossi netted a team-high four goals in the contest.
The Explorers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when Catie Borneman scored La Salle's first goal just 19 seconds into the contest. The Colonials took just about a minute to respond at the 1:13 mark as Hayley McDonough recorded her first goal of the goal.
La Salle freshman standout Jillian Davis put La Salle up by a goal with 2:28 gone in the game but the Explorers' lead would be shortlived. George Washington scored five unanswered goals over the next 3:12 to take a 6-2 lead. Grossi halted the Colonials scoring run at five at the 8:45 mark on a free position shot but again George Washington went on the offense. The second Colonials run added another five goals to bring their lead to 11-3 with 8:20 to play in the half.
Borneman notched her second goal of the game with 6:30 to play in the period on a free position shot, but the Colonials' Laura Wunk answered at the 24:42 mark. Borneman recorded a hat trick with 1:52 remaining to put the halftime score at 12-5.
After the break, the Explorers posted the first goal of the half as Grossi earned her second goal of the evening. McDonough answered with her second as well with 26:21 to play before Grossi netted her thrid of the game.
With 21:27 to go in the contest, the Colonials went on their third run of the game scoring the next six goals to put the score at 19-7. Junior Emily Bonczek got in on the scoring with 8:05 to play and Grossi recorded her fourth and final goal at the 54:04 mark. George Washington's Kristin Karcsh posted the Colonials' final goal of the game with 3:26 to play before Davis recorded her second goal with the help of Grossi.
The Explorers split the goalkeeping duties with Brittany Friedrich taking the first 30 minuts and faced 17 shots and earned four saves. In the second half, Chantelle McCormick took over and faced 12 shots while earning two saves. The Colonials started with Caitlin Garman who faced 11 shots and recorded two saves in the first 38:33 of the contest. Emily Fortunato relieved Garman for the last 21:27 and faced seven shots while recording three saves.
The Explorers were out shot 29-18 in the contest. Kelly Heiss and Davis led the Explorers with four draw controls each.
The Explorers will return to action on Sunday, April 15th when they host Duquesne at 12:00 p.m.
