Final Stats
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle Explorers (12-17, 5-6) were not productive with the bat this afternoon and gave up a non-conference doubleheader to 10-35 Georgetown.
The Hoyas took advantage of a set of singles and an error to take a 4-0 lead in the top of the third in the first game. The Explorers managed two hits in the fifth and sixth innings, including a powerful double from senior Laura Dezolt, but they produced no runs. Georgetown capped things off in the fifth inning, scoring their final run off a double from senior Cathy Richter.
Despite some spirited pitching from freshman Laura Beth McCreesh, Georgetown managed to get things going even earlier in the second game. Samantha Peters homered to left center in the first inning, bringing in runner Demetria Cipriano for a 2-0 lead. It didn't get much better for the Explorers from there, who finished with one more hit than the first game.
After Mary Pat Conville got on base with a nice single in the fourth inning, DeZolt tried to rally the team with her RBI double, but after two quick outs the inning was over with no more runs scored.
The rest of the game found both teams struggling to score. With a combined four players left on base for the final three innings, the game would come to a close with a final score of 5-1.
The girls will be back on the road this weekend, traveling to St. Bonaventure's for their Atlantic 10 doubleheader. Those games are set to start off at 12:00PM this Sunday, April 22nd.
