Final Stats
PHILADELPHIA, PA - In their final home game of the 2007 season, the La Salle Explorers lacrosse team hosted to the Saint Joseph's Hawks in an Atlantic 10 contest as they bid farewell to seniors Catie Borneman, Tiffany Grossi and Brittany Friedrich. Despite a second half rally, the Explorers fell 14-7 to the Hawks and drop to 4-8 (0-4) for the year. The win improved Saint Joseph's record to .500 at 6-6
(1-3).
After scoring the first goal of the game just 51 seconds into the contest on Emily Bonczek's free position attempt, the Explorers were poised to get a win.
The Hawks clipped that notion as Saint Joseph's Lindsay-Kate McCool got help from Colleen Ingelsby at the 2:15 mark to tie the score and a begin a scoring run for the Hawks. Saint Joseph's netted the next eight goals to take a commanding 9-1 lead with 8:19 to play in the first half.
Freshman Stefany McKee halted the run at nine when she took advantage of the free position shot with 4:26 to go in the period. McKee's goal marked the final goal of the half, as the Hawks took a 9-2 lead into the intermission.
After the break the tides changed for the Hawks when Borneman recorded her first goal of the afternoon at the 32:28 mark of the game. Saint Joseph's Jessica Westlake scored next to put the score at 10-3. The Explorers recorded back-to-back goals from Bonczek and Borneman in a span of 1:36 to close the gap to 10-5.
The Hawks answered with an Ashley Brennan goal on a pass from Christina Colangelo but the Explorers responded a gain. La Salle posted another pair of goal with Borneman and Elizabeth Iacullo both scoring free position goals.
With 16:34 to play, the Hawks went on a three-goal run to close out the scoring and put the final score at 14-7.
Grossi went over the 100 career ground ball mark with her team-high four of the game to put her career total at 102.
In goal for the Explorers, Friedrich started off the game and played the first half and the last 15:26 of the game for a total of 45:26. She faced 25 shots and earned 10 saves while allowing 10 goals. Chantelle McCormick took over in the second half to give Friedrich a 14:34 break and faced six shots enroute to one save. The Hawks Suzy Herlihy went the duration facing 20 shots and earning eight saves for the day.
The Explorers will have a day to rest before they travel to Richmond to take on the Spiders on Sunday, April 22nd at 1:00 p.m.
