Bonczek Nets Five Goals in Loss at Temple

PHILADELPHIA, PA - On a rainy overcast day, the La Salle Explorers took to the road to travel down Broad Street to visit the Temple Owls in an Atlantic 10 lacrosse conference match-up.  Junior Emily Bonczek led the way for the Explorers with five goals, but the handful of goals wasn't enough to get a win, as the Owls defeated
La Salle 16-12 on Friday afternoon at Geasey Field.  The loss drops La Salle to 4-10 (0-6) for the year as Temple improves to 6-9 (4-2).

The Owld jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of the contest, before Bonczek halted the Temple scoring run with an unassisted goal with 15:42 to play in the half.  The Explorers followed with a goal from Tiffany Grossi at the 16:42 mark followed by Bonczek's second goal at the 19:10 mark to close the Temple lead to
6-3.

Temple responded with a pair of goals from Kelly Yemm and Allison Frengs sank her third of the game with 5:50 to go in the half to extend the Owls' lead to five at 8-3.  Bonczek marked her hat trick with just 1:05 to go before the break, and Temple's Brittney Hoffman closed out the first half with a goal just 13 seconds later to give the Owls a 9-4 lead at the break.

After the intermission, the Explorers came out on the offense as Borneman notched her first goal of the game just two minutes into the period, followed by freshman Rachel Kilgore's goal off a pass from Tiffany Grossi just 19 seconds later.  Allie Venuti scored next at the 35:24 mark to close the scoring margin to two at 9-7.  The Owls' Whitney richards took a pass from Casey Cech to stop the Explorers, but Borneman answered that goal with her second of the day with 20:45 left to play.

Temple scored a pair of goals before Bonczek recorded her fourth of the day at the 41:47 mark.  The tems traded the next series of goals before Bonczek knocked in her fifth an final goal with 8:08 to play.  Temple scored two additional goals before Jillian Davis closed out La Salle's scoring with 1:21 remaining.  Yemm tipped in a shot as time expired to put the final at 16-12.

Brittany Friedrich logged the 60 minutes of play in the net, recording 13 saves.  Temple's net was controlled by Bridget McMullan with 60 minutes and seven saves.

The Explorers will close out the 2007 season on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Massachsuetts Minutewomen in Amherst, MA.  This game will mark the final appearance in an Explorer uniform for seniors Catie Borneman, Tiffani Grossi and Brittany Friedrich.
