Philadelphia, PA - In a doubleheader where one game went long and the other ended early the La Salle University Explorers (10-14, 5-6 Atlantic 10) split a pair of games with the Charlotte 49'ers (21-16, 2-4 Atlantic 10) on Friday afternoon/early evening at Good Shepherd Field.
After being held hitless through four and two-thirds innings the Explorers went into extra innings of a scoreless tie and put their first two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth inning of game one.
Mary Pat Conville (Jamison, PA/Archbishop Wood) doubled down the left field line to start the frame then Laura Dezolt (Morrisville, PA/Conwell-Egan) was intentionally walked before Michelle Sullivan (Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) drove a single up the middle to plate Conville and win the game.
Dezolt earned her seventh win of the season (7-7).
In game two La Salle starter Laura Beth McCreesh (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil) lasted just two-thirds of an inning after giving up five runs, four earned, en route to Charlotte's six-run first inning.
Included in the 49'ers first inning assault was a Kristi Killough two-run home run.
The Explorers cut the lead in half with a three-run third inning where Sullivan hit her first home run of the season an opposite field shot to right center to add two runs batted in to here team-high total (19).
The 49'ers responded with a run in the fourth, three more in the fifth and another in the sixth inning.
The Explorers went scoreless in the bottom of the sixth before the game was called on account of darkness.
