Indianapolis, IN -- La Salle distance runner Sean Quigley (Braintree, MA/Archbishop Williams) finished 14th of 25 runners in the 10,000-meters at the United States Nationals on Thursday night at the Michael Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University - Indianapolis.
Quigley led for two laps before turning a two-mile time of 8:56 between the 800 and 4,000 - meter marks of the race. He finished in 29:33.56.
"Sean ran may have been too aggressive," stated head coach Charles Torpey of the four-time All-American who found himself boxed in the pack in lane one before moving outside and finishing himself in the front of the pack.
"He can run with these guys but he probably would have been better off to hang in the middle or the back instead of getting right up front so early."
While the top three finishers of the race qualified for the World Championships, Quigley's performance will likely make him eligible for several national teams.
Freshmen Matt Mitchell (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) and Andrew Wagoner (Pittsburgh,PA/Central Catholic) participated in the Junior Men's 10,000 meter finishing 6th and 11th respectively.
Trevon Rainford (Philadelphia,PA/Engineering and Science) finished 9th in Friday's Junior 1500-meter event advancing him to Saturday's 1500-meter, where he placed 12th with a time of 4:13.81.
