Explorers Back in the Win Column

Sept. 16, 2007

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - After suffering its first home defeat of the season on Friday, the La Salle University Women's Soccer team rebounded with a 2-0 victory over visiting Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at McCarthy Stadium.

An early goal again helped the Explorers to the win, as Traci DePasquale took a cross from Melanie Gamble and put it in the back of the net to give La Salle a 1-0 lead at the 9:58 mark. In each of their four wins, the Explorers have scored a goal by the 10-minute mark and entering the game were 3-0 with a halftime advantage.

They would improve that mark to 4-0 thanks to an insurance goal from Kristin Hextall in the 60th minute of play.

Just beyond midfield, DePasquale played a ball to Hextall, who would beat the defender to it, which forced Pioneer goalie Meghan Reicheit to come out for a 1-on-1 situation. Hextall won it, putting the ball into the lower right part of the net for her team-leading fifth of the season, just one ahead of DePasquale's four.

Earning the win in the net for La Salle was Lauren Malizia, who stopped a run of three straight games in which the Explorers ha allowed two goals in each. She made four saves while recording her first shutout of the season, while Reicheit had six saves in the loss.

La Salle (4-2) is next in action Friday when they travel down to Penn to face the Quakers with a 4 PM start.
