Explorers Tie 1-1 in Double Overtime Batte Against Penn

Sept. 16, 2007

Philadelphia, PA - A double dose of overtime resulted in a tie in Philadelphia Soccer Seven action for La Salle as they were pitted against the University of Pennsylvania in the Penn Invitational Sunday afternoon.

Junior Jim Davis (Pittsgrove, PA) scored with under seven minutes remaining in regulation off of a pass from junior Dan Heavey (Coatesville, PA) to send the game into overtime. Neither team could find the net in 110 minutes and the match ended in a 1-1 double-overtime deadlock.

La Salle would play a scoreless first half of soccer as freshman keeper Kyle Quigley (Millersville, MD) was perfect in net for the Explorers. Penn broke the stalemate in the second half when Quaker Keith Vereb scored off of a corner at the 33:28 mark to take the lead. The Explorers were able to even the score when Davis filled the net with 6:38 left to extend the game beyond regulation.

The Explorers turned away two corner kick opportunities in the first overtime while Penn out-shot La Salle 3-1 but could not get past junior goalie Dan Pfeiffer (Warminster, PA) who came in in relief of Quigley.

The game ended in a 1-1 after two overtimes despite the several marquee scoring opportunities for the Quakers

The Explorers return to action on Saturday, September 22nd when they host the first home game of the season against city rival Saint Joseph's University. Kick-off is schedule for 7:00 PM.
