Coming off of two crushing overtime defeats, the La Salle field hockey team picked up a much-needed 4-2 victory over Sacred Heart at the Hofstra Invitational.
Kara Harpel scored two goals and assisted on another, as the Explorers improved their record to 3-2 on the season.
Christy Miller got La Salle on the board first, taking a pass from Harpel to put the Explorers up 1-0 just eight minutes into the contest.
Less than two minutes later, Harpel scored off of a breakaway to give the blue and gold a 2-0 advantage.
Sacred Heart's Carisa Eye would cut the lead in half moments later, but Maria Allegretto would give the Explorers a 3-1 lead with less than 10 minutes to play in the first half, when her shot off of a rebound found the back of the cage.
Eye's second goal of the half would trim La Salle's lead to 3-2 headed into the intermission.
After an offensive explosion in the first 35 minutes, the defenses would tighten in the second half.
Colleen Lechner would find Harpel, who lofted a shot past Pioneer goalkeeper Kristen McIntire, to make it a 4-2 game.
Ellen Axelsen recorded 16 saves to preserve the win for La Salle.
Next up for the Explorers is a road contest at Lock Haven this Saturday at 12 p.m.
