Explorers Earn a Pair of Sweeps

PHILADELPHIA, PA - In doubleheader action on Saturday at Tom Gola Arena, the La Salle volleyball team was perfect, earning a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Quinnipiac and Howard.

 

The victories give La Salle three wins in their last four matches, while boosting their overall record to 8-9.

 

In the first match of the day, the Explorers earned a convincing three-game victory over Quinnipiac.

 

The blue and gold coasted to wins of 30-12, 30-22 and 30-17.

 

Rachel Stemper paced La Salle with 13 kills, including seven in the first game. The sophomore hit .440 for the match.

 

Stephanie Owen led the Explorers with 12 digs, while Danielle DiMarco contributed 10.

 

As a team, the Explorers compiled a .350 hitting percentage, including a .583 mark in the third game.

 

Erin Sullivan racked up a match-high 34 assists in the win.

 

La Salle earned a sweep of Howard in the nightcap, winning by scores of 30-23, 30-15 and 30-22.

 

Stemper again led the Explorers with 17 kills while hitting an impressive .483. Amy McKeon chipped in with 12 kills and five blocks, while Owen recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.

 

Sullivan added 37 assists.

 

The Explorers host Princeton this Tuesday at Gola Arena. It will be the Explorers final non-conference test before Atlantic 10 play begins. Match time is 7 p.m.
