Field Hockey Falls to Number 20 Villanova, 4-1

Sept. 29, 2007

Box Score

The La Salle field hockey team dropped a tough 4-1 decision to 20th ranked Villanova on Saturday afternoon.

Colleen Lechner scored the loan goal for the Explorers, who drop to 6-6 on the season.

La Salle got on the board just under five minutes into the contest. Lechner knocked one in from about five feet off of a deflection of her own corner to give the Explorers and early 1-0 lead.

For Lechner, it was her sixth goal of the season.

Villanova would have multiple chances to even the score in the first half, but strong defensive play from Rachel Deaner and Colleen Nesbitt kept the Wildcats attack in check.

Goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen recorded three saves in the period.

The tide turned quickly in the second half, as Villanova's Allison Boris tied the score in the 48th minute off of a pass from Stephanie Campbell.

Boris gave the Wildcats the lead about five minutes later, scoring off of a pass from Catherine Somits.

Lauren Wuzzard would tack on two insurance goals, as Villanova coasted to the victory.

The La Salle goalkeeping duo of Axelsen and Emma Ruth combined to stop seven shots on the day.

The Explorers return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they host Rider at DeVincent Field.
