Kara Harpel scored 10 minutes into the second overtime to boost La Salle to a 2-1 win over Rider on Sunday afternoon.
The Explorers led most of the contest, but a late Rider goal forced extra play and set the stage for Harpel's heroics.
Maria Allegretto gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute with her sixth goal of the season.
La Salle would have multiple opportunities to strike again, as they outshot the Broncs 12-2 in regulation. However, Rider goalkeeper Jennifer LoCastro turned away shot after shot, recording 11 saves on the day.
The Explorers' inability to capitalize ended up coming back to haunt them late in regulation.
Diana Celebre's goal with less than six minutes to play in the second period knotted the score at 1-1 and shifted the momentum in Rider's favor.
Both teams failed to score in the final minutes of regulation and the game headed into overtime, which has become familiar territory for the Explorers, as today was their fourth game that has gone at least one extra period.
Celebre attempted to put a quick finish to the contest, as she caught Explorer goalkeeper Axelsen out of position and fired a shot towards the goal. Fortunately for La Salle, Colleen Lechner was in the right place at the right time, recording the defensive save and preserving the tie.
That would be the best chance either team had to score in the first extra frame, as the game moved to overtime number two.
In the 96th minute, Harpel decided to take matters into her own hands, as she weaved though the Rider defense and pushed a shot past LoCastro to give the Explorers the hard-fought victory.
The overtime win was the Explorers first in four tries this season and gives them a 7-6 record on the year.
La Salle opens up the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule this Friday, as they will travel to Rhode Island to take on the Rams. Game time is at 3 p.m.
