NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The La Salle volleyball team went toe-to-toe with Iona on Wednesday night, but fell in a tight match, 3-2.
Senior Erin Sullivan led the Explorers with 15 kills, while sophomore Rachel Stemper added 10.
The two teams were evenly matched throughout the evening. Iona squeaked by in the first game, 30-28.
In game number two, La Salle had their backs up against the wall, trailing 29-28. Sullivan's kill evened the score and a service ace by freshman Kayla Beck gave the Explorers the lead for good.
Iona took the third game, 30-23, but La Salle again battled back to win another close one, 30-28.
The fifth game was all Iona, as the Gaels won a 15-6 decision.
Beck again led the Explorers with 35 digs, while sophomore Danielle DiMarco chipped in with 20.
Freshman Carly Conlon contributed 55 aces for La Salle, who falls to 5-5 on the year.
Next up for the Explorers is the Oakland Tournament this weekend in Rochester, MI. La Salle faces the tournament host Grizzlies this Friday night at 7 p.m.
