Explorers and Bison Can't Settle After 110 Minutes in 1-1 Tie

Oct. 1, 2008

Box Score

Philadelphia, PA – Despite dominating throughout the entire first half and out shooting their opponents 10-3 at the half, the La Salle University Explorers would claim their third tie of the season in a 1-1 deadlock with Bucknell on Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The Bison (5-4-4) were called for six fouls in the first half to a lone whistle against the Explorers (1-5-3) but it wasn’t until the 50:41 mark in the second period when the Explorers would break the scoreless tie on Ryan Dougherty’s second goal of the season.

The score came in the action following a crossing pass in which two Explorers whiffed on shots before Jim Davis settled the ball and set up Dougherty for the score.

Bucknell answered just over two minutes later when Scott Greenburg headed a cross from Matt Hittson to Alex Russo who redirected the ball with a second header into the net.

The teams played even throughout regulation and the two overtimes before time ran out.

Three yellow cards were issued to the Bisons’ Russo and Ross Liberati as well as La Salle’s Brian Bowers.

The Explorers return to action Saturday with a 1:00 PM game against Adelphi at McCarthy Stadium.
