Box Score

Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle volleyball team put forth a valiant effort on Friday, however, the 49ers of Charlotte were victorious in the end as they went on to defeat the Explorers at Tom Gola Arena, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-16).

After dropping the first set, the Explorers looked to strike back after knotting the second set at 19 all with a Christa Dominick kill. Charlotte eventually went on to pull away with a victory in the second set and then won the final set, 25-16.

Dominick led all Explorers with 11 kills and four assisted blocks while also achieving two digs. Senior Jackie Kushman posted a team-high 14 digs and was two kills shy of a double-double, finishing with eight.

For the 49ers, sophomore Kat Hicks set a match-high for kills with 17, along with adding nine digs, and senior Carly Romberg set a match-high for digs with 19. Senior Courtney Cowles contributed 33 of her team’s 37 assists while also racking up 11 digs.

La Salle used Friday evening’s match to hold their “Dig for the Cure” event for the month of October. The cause looks to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. Each La Salle volleyball player gathered pledges for each dig that they recorded on the night. All proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. On the night, the Explorers tallied 50 digs.

The Explorers (5-18, 1-7) return to action tomorrow as they get set to take on George Washington for a 2:00 p.m. start time at Tom Gola Arena. The seniors will be recognized for their four years of hard work and determination on “Senior Day” in the final home match of the season.
