Oct. 26, 2008

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Ryan Richter netted a goal in the 86th minute, but it was too little too late in a 3-1 loss at Dayton on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers fall to 2-10-3 (1-4 Atlantic 10) while Dayton improves to 11-2-2 overall (5-0-1 Atlantic 10).

Richter's goal, his second of the season, was scored on a cross from Brian Barry. Richter took the cross and headed the ball in toward the far post.

The Explorers and Flyers played scoreless ball until Dayton's Alex Torda broke through in the 27th minute by heading in a cross set up by teammates Jeff Popella and Ryan Handbury.

The Flyers added another goal at the 34:15 mark, this time by Joe Olwig for what proved to be the winning score. Luke Baker and Ben Murray set Olwig up on a corner flick, which Olwig sent into the net.

Torda scored his second goal of the contest on a feed from Sonny Renner at 73:52 to put the score at 3-0.

The Explorers took 15 shots to the Flyers' 17. Torda led all players with seven shots, while Richter led the Explorers with six shots. Dan Pfeiffer suffered the loss in goal for the Explorers and made four saves in the effort, while the Flyers' Tyler Picard was credited with the win while making six saves.

The Explorers return home to McCarthy Stadium next Friday (10/31) for a tilt with Massachusetts at 7 p.m. and wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Sunday (11/2) with a Senior Day match against Rhode Island at 1 p.m.
