PHILADELPHIA – With just eight seconds left on the clock, the visiting Dukes scored the equalizer and two 10-minute overtime sessions could not decide a winner as La Salle Women’s Soccer battled Duquesne to a 2-2 draw in Atlantic 10 Conference action Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The Explorers built a two-goal lead 49 minutes into the contest with a goal in the first half, then another just 3:59 into the second half.

Junior Traci DePasquale scored the first goal, which was set up by an Ally Kenney cross from the left side of the field. Heather Steadman shot the ball towards the far post and DePasquale was there to tip it into the net in the 29th minute to give La Salle a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, it was DePasquale starting the play and Kenney finishing it off to put the Explorers up 2-0. DePasquale dribble up the left side and played a thru ball to Alex Conley. Conley beat a defender then passed it on to Kenney on the right side for a 12-yard strike at the 48:59 mark.

Duquesne (3-3-3, 1-1-1 A-10) would cut its deficit to a goal in the 70th minute. Annie Reid settled an attempted clear on the right side and played a pop-up cross to the far post. The ball had just enough on it to carry it into the upper left corner of the goal, and the Dukes trailed 2-1.

In the last two minutes of the game, the clock stopped twice for the issuing of cards and the stoppage proved costly for the Explorers, as the Dukes were able to knot the game up with eight seconds left. Jenna Farneti took a corner kick as the time ticked down and Laura Tlumack headed the ball into the net before the final buzzer.

Both goalkeepers – La Salle’s Melissa Sanger and Duquesne’s Gabby Morrin – allowed a pair of goals, while making three saves each.

La Salle (5-4-2, 1-1-1 A-10) will return to action Sunday, as they host St. Bonaventure, Sunday at 1 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
