PHILADELPHIA - It was deja vu for La Salle men's soccer on Sunday as the Explorers dropped their second straight 1-0 game by virtue of a first half penalty kick, this time to Temple. With the loss, the Explorers finish the 2008 season with a 2-14-3 record overall (1-8 Atlantic 10). The Owls wrap up the regular season with a 10-4-4 overall record (6-1-2 Atlantic 10) and move on to the Atlantic 10 Championship.
The Owls' penalty kick was taken by JT Noone at the 44:37 mark. The Owls were awarded the PK after a yellow card was issued to La Salle goalkeeper Kyle Quigley. Noone sank the kick for the game's only score.
The Explorers held a slim 18-17 shot advantage for the game, led by Colin Whalen's and Ryan Richter's four shots apiece. Three of Whalen's shots were on goal, but Owl keeper Bret Mollon made the saves. Nine different Explorers launched a shot in the game.
Temple held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks, but could not capitalize on any of those.
Quigley suffered the loss in goal for the Explorers while making seven saves. Mollon was credited with the win and came up with five saves.
The 2008 season is now complete for the Explorers, who graduate eight seniors this year.
