NEWARK, DE- The La Salle Explorers (4-8) split their first doubleheader back on the east coast as they took the nightcap 6-3 and fell 8-0 in the first game to the Delaware Blue Hens (6-6) in five innings on Wednesday afternoon at Delaware Field.
In the La Salle victory, Laura Beth McCreesh (Philadelphia, PA) doubled in senior Michelle Sullivan (Gibbstown, NJ) to score La Salle's first run in the second inning. They struck again in the third as Danielle Signorelli (Jenkintown, PA) singled in Mary Pat Conville (Jamison, PA) to go up 2-0.
In the fourth Angelina Bisbiglia (Sewell, NJ) hit a two-run double and Alicia De La Rosa (Yorba Linda, CA) brought in another run to give the Explorers a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Hens got a run on the board thanks to a La Salle wild pitch, but a Conville double added to the blue and gold tally in the sixth. In the final inning, the Blue Hens knocked out a two-run homer, but it would be too little too late as La Salle took a 6-3 victory. La Salle's McCreesh got the win on the rubber.
In the first game of the day, the Explorers were held to just two hits in the 8-0 loss as freshman Ali Shepherd (Philadelphia, PA) and Signorelli were the only two La Salle batters to mount any offense. Freshman hurler DJ Guinn (Ronnert Park, CA) took the loss as she gave up seven runs in 2.2 innings.
Tomorrow the Explorers host George Washington in their first A-10 match-up. The game will be played at Temple's Ambler campus, beginning at 2 PM.
