Box Score

DOVER, DE - Behind 15 hits - two of which were home runs by John Malloy and John Rickards - the La Salle University Baseball team won its second straight game, 14-4, at Delaware State, Tuesday afternoon.

The Explorers quickly got on the board in the first, as Rickards, TJ Chism and Mike Dertouzos each registered RBI in the first inning and La Salle was up 4-0 early.

Delaware State (2-14) answered right back with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame, but La Salle pitchers limited the Hornets to just two runs the rest of the way - an unearned run in the fourth and one in the sixth.

By the time Delaware State plated its fourth run of the afternoon, La Salle already pushed 11 men across. A solo home run by Malloy in the second and a RBI single by Brian Meagher in the third made it 6-2.

Malloy added an RBI single in the fourth and scored on Chism's second double of the day. Chism had a game-high four hits, knocked in two and scored three times, while Malloy scored four times and added two RBI.

Dertouzos made it 9-3 with a RBI double, which was followed by a Kevin Jones two-RBI single which put the Explorers comfortably up.

After the Hornets last run of the game, Rickards put an exclamation point on the win with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh, his third round tripper in the last four games and the 20th of his career.

Christian Schulz picked up the win for the Explorers and is now 1-1 this season.

La Salle (4-15) will now turn its attention to the Atlantic 10 season, which the Explorers open up this weekend with a three-game set at Richmond starting Thursday at 3 PM.
