Men's Tennis Stung by Hornets, 4-3

March 20, 2008

DOVER, DE - Facing a cold and windy environment with less than stellar court conditions, the La Salle men's tennis team was downed by Delaware State, 4-3.

Delaware State jumped on the Explorers from the get-go, sweeping all three doubles matches. George Gennaoui and Jon Maula were downed at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, while Ryan Knarr and Andy Petrusky fell by the same score at No. 2. It was the same story for Christian Harvey and Matt Rivera, as they also lost by an 8-4 mark.

The Explorers fought through the wind to put up a fight in singles, before coming up just short in the end. Gennaoui won 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) at No. 1, while Petrusky was downed 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Senior Eric Glick lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, while Maula put up a fight in the first set before falling 6-4, 6-4. Matt Rivera and Chris Butera got the Explorers some much-needed points at the back of the lineup, coming up with dominating wins. Rivera won 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) while Butera cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win.

La Salle returns home on Monday, March 24 against Loyola (MD).
