Explorers Bats Quiet in Two Losses to St. Bonaventure

April 11, 2008

Box Score

AMBLER, PA- The La Salle Explorers (12-20, 4-8 A-10) fell 1-0 in the first game and 2-0 in the second game of the day to the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies (10-14, 3-5 A-10) on Friday afternoon. The Explorers bats were quiet as they had just six hits over both games.

In the first game the Bonnies led-off with a single by Katie Pazda, and a RBI single by Kara Morenus would give her team a 1-0 edge, all the scoring they would need in the first game.

Sophomore Gina Massaro (Havertown, PA/ Hartford) hit a single in the third- the Explorers' only hit of the game and moved to third base with sophomore Angelina Bisbiglia (Sewell, NJ/ Camden Catholic) at bat, but she flied out to end the inning.

The Bonnie's pitcher Sherri Thompson threw a one-hitter to go to 7-6 in the first game.

Bonaventure threatened in the sixth with a single to center field by Andy Swanger with two outs, but La Salle sophomore Alicia De La Rosa (Yorba Linda, CA/ Rosary) handled a grounder to end the inning.

A walk in the sixth by junior Danielle Signorelli (Jenkintown, PA/ St. Basil) gave the Explorers another opportunity but three straight outs ended any La Salle hopes to break their offensive silence.

La Salle hurler sophomore Laura Beth McCreesh (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Basil) suffered her first loss in the month of April and went to 7-4 on the season with the loss.

In game two, the Bonnies again took an early 2-0 with two RBI singles off starting La Salle pitcher Massaro, who goes to 2-10 with the loss.

The teams dueled through six scoreless innings until Bisbiglia, Shepherd and senior Michelle Sullivan (Gibbstown, NJ/ Paulsboro) strung together three consecutive singles with no outs- but the Bonnies got the next three out to end the inning.

Faced with their last chance, the Explorers could muster just one hit to take the 2-0 loss.

Next the Explorers will travel to Rider University to take on the Broncs on Tuesday, April 15th at 3 :00 PM.
