Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, PA- The La Salle Explorers' (16-22, 6-10 A-10) ended their four-game winning streak as they fell 2-0 and 5-2 in A-10 action to city rivals the Saint Joseph's University Hawks (12-17, 8-6 A-10) on Sunday.
The Explorers were held to just two hits in the first game as they fell 2-0 on two unearned runs scored by SJU in the third inning. La Salle sophomores Gina Massaro (Havertown, PA/ Hartford) and Angelina Bisbiglia (Sewell, NJ/ Camden Catholic) had the only two hits in the loss.
Pitcher Laura Beth McCreesh (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Basil) went to 8-5 on the season with the loss.
In the second game the Explorers scored in right away as junior Danielle Signorelli (Jenkintown, PA/ St. Basil) doubled to get in scoring position and Mary Pat Conville (Jamison, PA/ Archbishop Wood) doubled her in for an RBI and 1-0 lead.
The Hawks replied with three runs in that inning with three hits including a two-RBI double. SJU scored again in the second on a throwing error by La Salle to surge ahead 4-1.
Explorer hurler Massaro led off the third with a double, and stole third. A sacrifice fly by Signorelli would score Massaro and cut the SJU lead to 4-2.
An RBI double would be all the scoring the Hawks would need in the third as the Explorers could not string together any rally and fell 5-2.
Massaro goes to 5-11 on the season with the loss.
The Explorers will travel to Delaware State on Wednesday, April 23rd for a 3:00 PM doubleheader, and play a rescheduled doubleheader with Manhattan the following day (4/24) at Rutgers-Camden at 3:00 PM.
