OLEAN, NY - The La Salle women's lacrosse team closed out its season with a 17-9 loss to St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon. Stefany McKee recorded a hat trick to pace the Explorers (1-15, 0-7 A-10).
The Bonnies raced out to a 5-0 lead early on in the contest. Kelly Heiss got the Explorers on the board with her 12th goal of the season at the 19:12 mark.
After another St. Bonaventure score, Nicole McCurdy connected with Elizabeth Iacullo for La Salle's second goal of the day. However, the Bonnies responded with a pair to take a commanding 8-2 lead with 3:04 to play in the half.
Emily Bonczek notched her 60th goal of the year with just over two minutes left, but the Bonnies scored two more to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.
La Salle attempted to claw its way back, as McKee opened the second half with two-straight goals, trimming the deficit to five. St. Bonaventure extinguished the rally with a pair to regain a seven-goal advantage. Erika Matthews made it a 12-6 game with her goal at the 16:17 mark in the second half, but two more St. Bonaventure goals put thte home team up eight, its largest lead of the day.
McKee and Allie Venuti scored back-to-back to make it a 14-8 game, but that would be the closest La Salle would get the rest of the way.
Bonczek added another score down the stretch, bringing her career total to 199 goals, second all-time in program history behind Jami Wilus ('01). She finished the afternoon with two goals and an assist.
Kaylan Billingsley led all Explorers with three ground balls, while causing three turnovers. Matthews and Brittany White each had an assist. Ellen Axelsen started in goal and recorded seven saves.
La Salle outshot the Bonnies 33-31, but Eboni Preston and Tori Waheibi combined for 18 saves on the day.
Kimberly Ross and Brenna Houghton each had four goals and three assists for St. Bonaventure (4-10, 2-5 A-10).
