Crawford Knocks in Two in 7-3 Loss at Penn State

April 22, 2008

Box Score

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Chris Crawford hit a two-out single down the left field line to score a pair of runs, but Penn State had already built a seven-run lead and defeated the La Salle University Baseball team Tuesday night, 7-3, in non-conference action at Medlar Field at LP.

Penn State (16-21) scored a single run in the first and fourth sandwiched around a pair of runs in both the second and third. Shortstop Lou Picconi knocked in three of those on a two-RBI double in the second and his RBI single in the fourth gave the Nittany Lions a 6-0 lead.

They tacked on one more in the sixth when Wes Borden scored his second run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Rob Yodice.

In the seventh, the Explorers, who were held to just one hit to that point, loaded the bases with no outs, but a ground ball double play looked like it would end the threat.

However, Crawford laced a single into left field scoring RJ Hollinshead and Mike Dertouzos. Then, they loaded the bases back up before Paul Hawkins got the final out with a fly to center.

Again, in the eighth, La Salle loaded the bases with two out, and a walk to Derek Barauskas plated TJ Chism, but the Explorers would do no more damage.

TJ Macy (1-1) picked up the win for Penn State, as they won their fifth straight game. Christian Schulz (1-2) suffered the loss.

La Salle (9-30) will host Rhode Island this weekend in an Atlantic 10 Conference three-game series starting Friday at 3 PM.
