The Explorers (10-18, 4-6 A-10) banged out 13 hits as hurler Laura Beth McCreesh (Philadelphia, PA/ St. Basil) got her sixth win of the season in a 7-1 victory over the University of Dayton Flyers (17-18, 4-6 A-10) in the second game of the day, La Salle fell 7-4 in the first game. McCreesh allowed just two hits in game two and hit her first and second collegiate home runs on the day.
Both Angelina Bisbiglia (Sewell, NJ/ Camden Catholic) and Ali Shepherd (Philadelphia, PA/ Creative & Performing Arts) also homered in the win. Bisbiglia leads the Explorers with five homers this season, surpassing her total for the 2007 season (3).
Bisbiglia homered to put La Salle on top in the first, followed by Shepherd -who hit her third round-tripper of the year to make it 3-0.
In the third, senior Michelle Sullivan (Gibbstown, NJ/ Paulsboro) singled to bring in sophomore Mary Pat Conville (Jamison, PA/ Archbishop Wood), and McCreesh brought in two more runs with her homer to take a 6-0 advantage early on.
The Flyers responded in the sixth, off a La Salle fielding error to get on the board, but an insurance run in the seventh as McCreesh singled up the middle to bring in Sullivan would make the final La Salle 7, Dayton 1.
In the first game the Explorers out-hit the Flyers 8-7, but could not overcome a 6-2 deficit by the third inning. McCreesh hit a two-run blast in the sixth to make it 6-4, but the Flyers scored on a wild pitch in the seventh and La Salle took a 7-4 loss.
Losing pitcher Gina Massaro (Havertown, PA/ Hartford) had seven strikeouts.
The Explorers return home to face the Towson Tigers on Tuesday, April 8th for a doubleheader to begin at 3:00 PM, played at Penn.
