Box Score
PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University Baseball team committed four errors that led to three unearned runs - two of which scored in the first inning - and the Saint Joseph's Hawks never relinquished their lead in a 6-2 victory at Hank DeVincent Field, Thursday, in the first of a three-game Atlantic 10 series.
La Salle also stranded 14 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth and eighth innings as the four through nine hitters combined for just three hits.
John Rickards had three hits himself, including a pair doubles, while John Malloy and Justin Handler each collected two hits. Rickards hit an RBI double in the third, scoring Malloy, and Handler plated a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by TJ Chism.
Randy Mower improved to 7-5 with the victory for the Hawks after throwing seven innings, but allowed seven hits and walked four. Doug DiSandro picked up his first save of the season, coming into a no out bases-loaded jam in the eighth and did not allow a run. However, he did allow the sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Jamie Cowan suffered his ninth loss of the season after going just 3.2 innings, allowed four runs, two earned, but walked five. Christian Schulz threw the 4.1 innings and allowed just one earned run, while Caolan Ronan pitched a scoreless ninth.
The teams will continue their three-game series with a contest Friday at 3 PM.
