Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle volleyball team opened up the 2008 season with their inaugural match against the Lafayette Leopards in the La Salle Invitational at Tom Gola Arena on Friday, August 29. After taking the first set, 25-20, the Explorers rolled over the Leopards by winning two of the following three sets, handing Lafayette their second loss of the season and providing La Salle with their first victory.
Junior Rachel Stemper led the way for the Explorers with 10 kills and 16 digs, giving her the first double-double of the season. Stemper also went on to record a match-high three service aces. Senior Christa Dominick totaled 11 kills, which added to her .429 hitting percentage (11-2-21).
Sophomore Carly Conlon assisted on 29 of La Salle's 41 kills and freshman Stephanie Milovic made her La Salle debut with eight kills and five digs. Dominick, senior Amy McKeon and freshman Alex Kennedy all chipped in with two assisted blocks, respectively.
Sophomore Katrina Racibarskas of Lafayette, led all Leopards with 13 kills and 14 digs, including two assists and two assisted blocks. Senior Megan Carter and junior Ashton Rossi both combined for 34 of Lafayette's 55 kills.
The La Salle Invitational continues on Saturday, August 30 when the Explorers (1-0) take on the Rider Broncs at 12:00 PM and then the Northern Colorado Bears at 7:00 PM. Action is set for 10:00 AM at the Tom Gola Arena.
