Aug. 29, 2008

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University Women's Soccer opened its 2008 slate with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Delaware State Hornets, Friday night at McCarthy Stadium, as both Alex Conley and Traci DePasquale had a goal and an assist in the non-conference victory.

Just five minutes into the match, Conley scored the game-winner as she scored off a rebounded shot by Morgan Golden. DePasquale served the ball into Golden, who shot, but Hornet goalie Allison Schrang stopped it, but Conley quickly put home the deflection.

For the rest of the first half, the Explorers had several scoring chances, but could not increase their advantage. They outshot Delaware State 11-1 in the first and 23-2 in the game. However Schrang came up with six saves in the first half to keep the Hornets in the game.

In the second, La Salle broke through for its first insurance goal as a pair of freshmen combined for the tally. Dana O'Brien scored off an assist from Leigh Gray in the 52nd minute.

The finishing touches of the win came off the foot of DePasquale, who scored her 16th career goal - putting her in a tie for the eighth spot on the school's all-time list, and her three-point night gives her 41 career points, ninth all-time, in 42 career games. Conley registered the assist on the tally, for her first career three-point game.

Earning the victory in net for the Explorers was Melissa Sanger, who faced just two shots and recorded one save in her third career shutout. Delaware State's (0-1) Schrang stopped nine shots, but suffered the loss.

La Salle (1-0) is next in action on Sunday, travelling to Wagner for a 1 PM match.
